I hope you all enjoyed your long holiday weekend. Since it was Labor Day, I decided not to do “labor” so I stayed away from blogging and my Facebook page, but so happy that I am here today to share with you all a lovely tutorial from our DIY/Craft Contributor, Laura of You Stir Me…she has done it again. This tutorial is really all about the pretty and the final results say “wow”. So thanks Laura for giving our lovelies, a little prettiness to start September off with a creative bang! Here’s Laura….
Hi Lovelies! I’m back with what might be my favorite DIY yet. I love finding new ways to liven up outdoor lighting, whether it’s for a pretty backyard party or a fancy rooftop reception. And what better way to do that than with some lovely lace lanterns!
You Will Need:
- Embroidery hoop
- Lace
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Jewelry cord (I used jewelry cord because it’s what I had laying around but use whatever you’d like for hanging the lantern – pretty ribbon, baker’s twine, string, fishing wire, etc.)
- Battery operated tea light

1. Disassemble the embroidery hoop.
2. Place lace over the inner hoop and reassemble.

3. Cut the lace off around the bottom of the hoop and trim the edge as best as possible.
4. Using your glue gun, glue the tea light to the bottom of the hoop, making sure to keep the on/off switch facing out!

5. Tie your jewelry cord around the top and hang outside!

DESIGNER’S TIP:
I love thinking of all the ways you can customize these lanterns to your own event. I wrapped Washi tape around the outside and it just so happened to be the exact width of the embroidery hoop edge! Washi tape comes in so many different colors and patterns, you could have so much fun playing around with the design. You can also try painting the edges for a unique and crafty touch or write you wedding date and initials all around the outside! I would love to see these used as a dessert table back drop or hung from a branch above a beautiful dinner table outdoors. See? The possibilities are so endless they’ll keep you up at night. No? That just happens to me? Well, either way, you’ll enjoy finding ways to make these lanterns all your own.

These are so pretty Laura, and what a great way to use those old lace curtains (and embroidery hoops!) I’m always seeing at the thrift store. These would look awesome on a brightly colored wall too.
